Namada Monitoring Discord Bot

Hi all,

I just wanted to reach out and start to get some opinions in in regards to a Namada Monitoring Discord Bot.

This will be a bot which runs on either the Namada Discord or another for security reasons, to actively inform key stakeholders in the ecosystem about important matters.

We are planning currently to have the following implemented:

  • Validator uptime monitoring and notification
  • Endpoint uptime monitoring and notification
  • IBC Channel expiry notifications
  • IBC Relayer balance notifications
  • Governance proposals
  • Chain halts

We have experience with these bots, we’ve previously produced one for the Cosmos and we’d look to do something very similar for Namada:

The existing Namadata services are all built with a view to providing data for the bot to notify from - so it should be an easy transition!

We’d love to get any feedback or feature requests - but otherwise we’ll start within the next few weeks to get this rolled out!

As always, myself and Kleomedes are keen to contribute towards Namada and will continue to do so, as we have so far with Namadata!

Thanks for this idea! I think having clear alerts is something we’re currently missing.

These are broad topic ideas for potential alerts that might be useful for the community:
Consensus participation

  • Validator entering/exiting the consensus set
  • Jailing events (with cause)

Staking dynamics

  • Slashing events
  • Large unbonding completions
  • Large delegation variations

IBC

  • IBC packet failures
  • Large IBC transfers IN/OUT
  • Channels monitoring

Shielded Pool

  • Large single deposits/withdrawals
  • Significant drops in pool size
  • Low shielded pool activity

Other chain health & network security aspect

  • Large variations in total supply staked
  • Block production anomalies
  • Transaction congestion & Transaction latency

I’d be interested in discussing which alerts are the most important, and in defining the exact conditions or thresholds that should trigger them.
