Hello Namadians!
Namada mainnet has been live for 2 weeks and is currently in Phase 2, minting inflation for PoS and PGF. It’s been inspiring to see all the network participation from the community!
As we prepare for Phase 3 of the mainnet, I’d like to remind and notify everyone about the current testnets that are live and will be important staging environments for the remaining phases of mainnet.
There are two important testnets currently live, now also described here in the docs, called (you guessed it!) housefire and campfire:
Housefire
This is a mainnet-tracking testnet and will be used as the primary staging environment for mainnet governance proposals. As such, it is also currently running in Phase 2, the same config as mainnet except for the genesis addresses and with a shorter 1-hour epoch time.
About 100 genesis addresses with native tokens were generated and are reserved for community members, since there is no faucet and no transfer of native tokens before Phase 5. Some operators have already been onboarded as validators into the network, but most of the addresses are still available. If you would like to participate and claim one of the remaining addresses, pls reach out on discord to either myself (@Brent), @spork, or @sirouk. Looking to onboard all of the remaining addresses very soon!
Instructions to join Housefire
Campfire
This is a more experimental testnet that is already configured with full functionality enabled (Phase 5) from genesis. This testnet may be restarted from genesis on a new software version, if there is a new release, as desired and necessary.
Plan for testnet use
The Namada mainnet will not execute a governance proposal to advance to the next mainnet phase without having done the same on the Housefire testnet. Once both Housefire and mainnet have entered Phase 5 and are stable, then the Campfire testnet will be discontinued. Housefire will never be discontinued, remaining as the primary testnet.
Of course, anyone else in the community is welcome to spin up their own testnets with the software at any time in the future, but Tududes, Knowable, and Heliax are not committing to launching another new testnet after that.
In summary
We’re looking to see many of you use the testnets too, especially Housefire! We’re also interested in infra providers for the testnets as well. You can submit a PR to this ecosystem repo in the user-and-dev-tools/testnet/ directory to detail the infra you are providing.
