Request: Audit our five Namada explorers

Want to help Namada? Help out by auditing our five explorers!

Explorer services need to be reliably accurate because Namada users and other stakeholders rely on this kind of service as a source of truth, sometimes for decision-making.

We need to know if our explorer services are accurately reporting correct information about Namada so we can advise users, advise explorer creators/operators, and advise those engaging in Namada PGF.

Opportunity

Luminara :dim_button: is seeking a person or people from our community to perform an audit :bright_button: of our five different Namada explorers. For each explorer service, the goal is to assess the features (ie. representation of addresses, transfers, validators, governance) they have and how complete/accurate the information is being delivered for each feature. Highlight niche features unique to the explorer.

Would also be great to have information about the explorer service’s clarity and user experience.

Your insights may directly inform improvements to these critical services, ensuring Namada users receive clear, accurate, and meaningful on-chain Namada information.

Suggested deliverables

  • Checklist of features with status: accurate / incorrect / unsure / not applicable
  • Short comparative report highlighting strengths, unique features, weaknesses, and gaps in each explorer with recommendations for enhancements

Candidate

  • Familiarity with Namada’s protocol and features
  • Understanding of blockchain explorers and user requirements
  • Strong analytical skills

Compensation (NAM) should be based on depth and quality of the audit.

Please reply below with your interest or reach out directly. Feel free to offer suggestions as well!

Thanks for helping make Namada even better :raising_hands:

That is a great idea! In the past I have found some bugs in explorers by coincidence and reported them along with suggestions (: explorer75.org - Namada explorer powered by pro-nodes75 - #9 by Rigorous, : explorer75.org - Namada explorer powered by pro-nodes75 - #15 by Rigorous, : explorer75.org - Namada explorer powered by pro-nodes75 - #17 by Rigorous). It would be more effective to review all explorers thoroughly with a systematic approach.

@Rigorous, would be honoured if you were to take this on :person_bowing:

a minimal initial scope would be a great way to get a sense for what full scope could look like. but it can be whatever scope you want, if you want!

Thx @Gavin for starting this convo, I think this would be wildly useful and feels necessary. I also think @Rigorous would be a great candidate if willing to undertake something like this.

I would like to help here as well. Please add me to the party list.

Unsure if we are fit enough to do this. What would be expected of such a report (reward aside here, im curious about the technicalities)?

Hey, would be great to get this started soon! Gavin wrote up a great checklist dividing the work into different categories. I think it would be good to audit and produce some public report for each of these sections.

For each section, it would be good to address things like:

  • correctness of all displayed numbers and figures
  • UX and design choices to help user understand the data
  • missing valuable information
  • general trends and also features of specific explorers
